On Monday, March 17, the Southdale Residents Group will be hosting Dustin Brown, Chairperson of the Manitoba Citizens on Patrol Program (COPP), to discuss how to start a neighbourhood patrol in Southdale. The application for Southdale to join the COPP program has been submitted and accepted by MB COPP.
Who should attend?
Everyone is welcome, but this presentation will be especially useful for:
- Southdale residents or those in surrounding areas concerned about petty crime in their neighbourhood.
- Citizens interested in making their community a safer and better place to live.
- Individuals curious to learn more about what the COPP program does.
What is Citizens on Patrol Program?
The main goal of the Citizens on Patrol Program is to be on the look-out for any suspicious or criminal activity, to document this activity and, where appropriate, to report such activities to the police. COPP members act as additional “eyes and ears” for their community and the police, which assists in reducing crime.
The Citizens on Patrol Program works closely with local law enforcement. There are 41 different groups in Manitoba, four within Winnipeg.
